Why this blog and who are you?
The reason I am writing this blog is to do what I can to give the world some insight on the life of a Narcoleptic (you try finding blogs written by Narcoleptics, they are few and far between!). Of course not every post will be about Narcolepsy, but generally this blog will be dominated by the subject, as my life is dominaed by it.
On a more personal level, I'm a 22 year old college student, born and raised in the midwest, attending a fine school in Central Illinois as an Elementary Education major (yup, I'm a teacher in training). I'm currently in the middle of my senior year, although I may be attending an extra semester (more on that later). I was diagnosed a little over two years ago and life has certainly not been the same since!
Feel free to leave comments with any other information you want and I'll post about it!

Hi, I read about your blog on the Talk About Sleep board, and I just wanted to say Well Done. I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy about 2 years ago, (It wasn't a surprise, my Sister was diagnosed in 1989), and your blog is the first time I've read anything on the net about N that actually applies to me. I too have my most awake periods from about 10.30pm-3.00am, which is difficult as my husband gets up for work at 3 and I have 2 children that I have to get up at 7, but (as you already know!), we just get on with it. Please keep your blog going, it's nice to know that even though I am in England, there's someone out there that is going through the same stuff. Oh, and at least you can be grateful(I don't mean that in a patronising way!) that in the US Narcolepsy is actually considered a disability, in the UK you can only be registered disabled if you come off your meds. Nice isn't it? I bet they don't say that to diabetics, epileptics etc.
Good Luck to you!
I worked once as a (Maths) teacher part-time.
Being a stimulating job in itself it is probably ideal for narcolepsy. As long as you don't do way too many hours during each day.
I did a bad career move becoming a full time computer programmer - staring in front of a computer .. and then after losing my job and going bankrupt have been struggling since as a free-lance webdesigner working from home (alone) .. Sheer prolonged hell.
Hence, (part-time) teaching seems to be not a bad choice of career.
still i tell myself: Count your blessings not your curses.
Narcolepsy will soon be curable. We have undergone intense military+spiritual training. We will embrace life to the full, taking full adv of every single moment in order to advance & progress; helping others and ourselves ;; cherishing every single second when just being "awake" will become bliss itself.
